HUMAN HAIR

WASHING

Davines Wig Care ProductsTo wash your human hair wig, wet thoroughly with lukewarm water in the direction of the hair growth. Gently and evenly massage a small amount of shampoo into the hair and then rinse with lukewarm water until all traces of shampoo are removed. Always use a gentle flow of water - never blast the hair under a high-pressured tap or shower-head.
Apply a small amount of conditioner to the ends of the hair, working this gradually up the length of the hair using a wide-tooth comb – do not apply to the wig base. Rinse gently but thoroughly with lukewarm water. Blot the excess water with a towel and leave wrapped in the towel for a further five minutes to allow excess water to be soaked up.
To dry the hair, place on a wig stand or poly-head and comb through gently using a wide-toothed comb. You can use a hair dryer to blow-dry the wig if you wish, taking care not to overheat and damage the hair and wig base.

STYLING (Human hair only)

As with your natural hair, you can use styling products and appliances to create a personal look. When using heated rollers, straighteners or curling tongs, always avoid touching the wig base with the appliances. Here at the Julia Lampard salon, we offer a personal styling service for your human hair wig, which include cutting and styling to give a whole new look to your wig. This service is only available when the wig has been purchase from the salon or our website.

BRUSHING

You are able to brush your wig just as you would your own natural hair, starting from the ends first, gradually working up the length of the hair in gentle, downward strokes. Always take special care not to damage the wig base – use a brush with bobbled bristles to avoid snagging.

COLOURING

As with your own hair, your wig may fade with exposure to the sun, so we recommend using a UV protection cream or wearing a hat to protect against this. Davines Melu Shield (UV Protection) is ideal for this. Human hair wigs may be coloured, but we would advise having this done professionally.

SYNTHETIC WIG CARE

WASHING

Synthetic wigs should be washed after every 8-14 times of wear – the frequency depends on many factors including humidity, products used and the environment in which you wear your wig. Start by wetting the hair thoroughly with lukewarm water in the direction the hair falls. Gently and evenly massage a small amount of shampoo into the hair and then rinse with lukewarm water until all traces of shampoo are removed. Apply a small amount of conditioner to the ends of the hair, massaging gently along the hair length. Leave the conditioner in for five minutes before rinsing out completely with lukewarm water.
Place the wig in a dry, clean towel and gently pat it dry. Leave wrapped up for 2 minutes before gently combing the wig through using a wide toothed comb, starting at the ends and working up the length of the hair, being especially careful not to snag the wig base.
Shake the wig to settle it into its natural style before placing on a wig stand or poly-head and using your fingers or a wig brush to style it. Leave the wig in a warm place to dry overnight - the next morning it should bounce back into its original style.

STYLING

Synthetic wigs are designed to keep the shape of a pre-defined hairstyle and unlike human hair wigs they cannot tolerate heat from styling implements such as tongs, straighteners or hair dryers as these could melt the fibres and irreversibly damage your wig. If you have chosen a wavy wig, you will not be able to straighten it using straightening irons, and similarly, if your wig is straight, you cannot curl it with tongs.
There are some styling products which can help you create some alternative looks for your synthetic wig – please see the recommended products below.

BRUSHING

You can use a wide-toothed comb or brush on your synthetic wig, although you may find that a simple comb through with your fingers will be enough to de-tangle and restyle your wig. If you do use a brush, ensure that you use one with bobbled bristles and brush from the middle to the end of the hair to avoid snagging the delicate woven base.
